Title: Smoking Cessation Facilitator Training -- "Train The Trainer"
Description: In this four-hour training participants will be learn to implement a Tobacco Cessation Program. The course will include: Teaching clients to develop a plan to quit, assisting clients in the implementation of their plan, provide support in dealing with stress management and weight gain issues, and helping clients to avoid relapse. The topics of: The harmful physical effects, Tobacco dependence and Reasons why it's so difficult for some people to quit will be covered as a basis for the cessation process. This training is an experiential training.

Title: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence Utilizing the 5 A's Model
Description: Participants will learn how to use the 5A's model to assess and identify tobacco using patients. The U. S. Pubic Health Service (PHS) Clinical Practice Guidelines will be the guide for determining the protocol after assessment. Participants will learn how to design and implement systems for ongoing assessment, monitoring and documentation of your facility's smoke free policies. Additionally, an overview of tobacco dependence , the reason why it's so difficult for some patients to quit and effective treatment options will be covered. The latest pharmocotherapies, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements and services provided by the NYS Smokers Quitline will be discussed.

POWR To Be Tobacco Free Cessation Center (also known as POWR Cessation Center) is one of 19 Cessation Centers in New York State which is funded through a grant by the New York State Department of Health Tobacco Control Program (NYS TCP). POWR Cessation Centers main goal is to provide training and technical support to health care institutions and providers such as, clinics, home healthcare agencies, private practices, chemical dependency treatment centers, mental health agencies and dental offices in the design and implementation of systems to screen, identify and provide interventions and treatment for their tobacco-using patients based on the Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guidelines Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence - 2000. POWR Cessation Centers catchment area consists of Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Rockland Counties. We also assist hospitals and other healthcare facilities in all phases of becoming tobacco-free (including their entire campus). To further assist their patients and community to quit smoking, POWR Cessation Center will train your staff to become smoking cessation facilitators.
