Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence Utilizing the 5 A's Model

Participants will learn to use the 5 A's model to identify tobacco-using patients. The U.S. Pubic Health Service (PHS) Clinical Practice Guidelines will be the guide for determining the protocol after assessment. Participants will learn how to design and implement systems for ongoing assessment, monitoring and documentation of your facility's smoke free policies. Additionally, an overview of tobacco dependence, the reason why it's so difficult for some patients to quit, and effective treatment options will be covered. The latest pharmacotherapies, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements and services provided by the New York State Smokers Quitline will be discussed.
